So much of life today is focused on urgent issues right in front of us. Even in church ministry, day-to-day tasks take up the majority of our schedules and headspace, crowding out opportunities to think strategically about long-term goals. Experts call this phenomenon the “tyranny of the urgent.”
Local church ministry, like the Christian life, consists of both the now and the not yet—the near-term and the long-term. But if we’re not careful, our ministries can be tyrannized by what seems most urgent, hampering our focus on critical long-term emphases like leadership development. How can we build up the next generation of leaders when so much is clawing for our attention now?

Plan for an hour to an hour and a half to go through each session, especially if you’re going through the content in a group. The videos in this course range from 15 to 25 minutes, and the discussion questions and activities will likely take up the rest of your meeting time.
This course is five sessions long. Feel free to cover the sessions in increments that make the most sense for you and your leadership team. For some, it might work best to go through one session a week; for others, it might be better to cover one session a month. We do not recommend doubling up on sessions.
